The Mercury Mariner Hybrid could get up to 60 miles per gallon while going downhill on highway driving, but it averaged about 28 or so for all the mixed driving I did. It's a big car, though! I fit five people and our luggage in it for a long distance trip. I like your comment that "if enough consumers would make a purchase, the cost of the hybrid would come down." Demand drives price, and that's why I was willing to do the test drive and talk about it, even if the particular car I tried doesn't get the best mpg overall. I liked the vehicle very much. Now to make my point: I have to use the cost of the Hybrid and the gasoline version which is about half the price. The difference has to be included in the cost of gas per gallon over the time period owned (8 to 10 years?). I won't even get into the interest on the loan. Being green for the world is the way to go, but at what cost to the consumer? Anyone who would normally buy any brand vehicle for over thirty Thousand dollars should take a test drive in this beautiful car. I believe they would purchase one.
